Best Non-Iron Dress Shirts: Smooth From the Dryer, No Iron
A good non-iron shirt goes from dryer to hanger to work with, at most, a quick touch-up on the collar. A bad one feels stiff or wrinkles by lunch. This page shows what to check before you buy and where each brand fits. We haven’t run our own wash tests yet. When we do, results go here.

Not sure of your size? Get your collar and sleeve from the size calculator first. Non-iron cotton has little give, so fit matters more here.
How to pick one that stays smooth
- Fabric: treated 100% cotton feels most like a classic shirt. Stretch and synthetic blends resist wrinkles without treatment but feel different.
- Collar construction: a fused or well-lined collar holds its shape through washes.
- Fit options: look for collar and sleeve sizing, not just S/M/L.
- Care instructions: most need a low-heat dry and prompt hanging to stay smooth.
Where to buy non-iron dress shirts
- Charles Tyrwhitt non-iron shirts: a dedicated non-iron range, with collar and sleeve sizing.
- Brooks Brothers: non-iron dress shirts, including button-down collars.
- Mizzen+Main: performance-fabric shirts built to resist wrinkles.
- Nordstrom: carries non-iron shirts from several brands in one place.
- Amazon: budget wrinkle-free options from many brands.
What the brands’ own pages show
- Charles Tyrwhitt has a full non-iron range in twill and stretch weaves, with point, semi-spread, spread and button-down collars, sold by collar and sleeve size.
- Brooks Brothers sells non-iron dress shirts alongside pure Supima cotton ones, and offers alterations.

Quick answers
Do non-iron shirts actually work?
Mostly. Non-iron and wrinkle-free shirts come out of the dryer much smoother than plain cotton, but most still look best with a quick touch-up on the collar and placket.
How do I wash a non-iron shirt?
Follow the care label. In general: wash warm or cool, tumble dry low, and take it out while it’s still slightly damp and hang it right away.
Is non-iron the same as performance fabric?
No. Non-iron usually means cotton treated to resist wrinkles. Performance shirts use stretch synthetic blends that resist wrinkles on their own.
